Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Enticing notes of black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate with hints of savory spices, this full-bodied wine displays polished tannins and an elegantly balanced mouthfeel. Excellent now but can age well for over a decade.
Ratings
James Suckling (91 Points) - A little extracted but some solid currant and blueberry character to this generous red. Full body, round and juicy. Clean finish. A blend of 96% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot. Enjoyable now but better in 2019. Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Contributing Editor and wine critic, Virginie Boone said this about the 2015 Il Barone, "With 4% Petit Verdot, this is a hearty, concentrated red wine, firm and robust in tannin and toasted oak. High-toned red cherry and plum are accented in chocolate, tobacco and leather, finishing in earthy dried herb and black pepper. 90 Points

Vineyard Notes
A blend of the Castello's top high-end Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards from the best growing regions of Napa Valley. The majority of the fruit comes from the Rutherford AVA, a region famed for producing beautifully structured and complex Cabernet Sauvignon.
Production Notes
The 2015 vintage was of high quality, but very low yields in many varieties. The harvest will also be remembered as one of the earliest ever. The relatively dry and warm winter resulted in small clusters of grapes with highly concentrated flavors yielding wines of deep, rich flavors and excellent quality with deep color and lovely fruit aromas. - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Winemaker Notes
Il Barone is a very flavorful, elegant and structured red wine in the style of high-quality, very limited-production, fine Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Napa Valley. Excellent long-term ageing potential.
Food Pairing Notes
Pair with foods as bold as the wine, such as roast game meats, grass-fed steak, or grilled portabello mushrooms with reduced balsamic vinegar glaze.

Just walked into a cigar shop. Hydrangeas in a pot in the corner by the window. Window is open and Thai restaurant next door wafts just past the hydrangeas. Palate has sweet cherry, blueberry and lemon pie with silky tannins that hit forward and back but not mid. Back finish is combination of tannins and acidity. Very elegant. 4.4 -Vivino Reviews

Castelo di Amorosa will stay for a long time one of my favorite places on Earth. Il Barone is definitely one of the best at the Castle, we enjoyed this wine during their premium tasting tours. Whenever you have the chance to try one of their wines - go for it, especially if you do not live in the US (since it is difficult to buy the wine in Europe). - Vivino Review

If I have one regret in life, it's not making it out to Castello di Amorosa 15 years ago.. Il Barone, simply is the best cab out there.

Il Barone is one of my top 3 wines of all time. I savor each sip, am always sad when the last drop has been poured from the bottle.

A truly wonderful wine that is great with beef, lamb, pork or really good cheese. It is a real treat whenever I open a bottle of Il Barone.

They say in my hometown of Naples, prendere due piccioni con una fava. This wine not only is deep and rich in flavor, but also takes you to that warm, scintillating fields of Certosa di San Martino.. Never have I had such an exquisite and elegant wine.

Yes, this wine is excellent. However, the red wax drip that covers the cork in my opinion makes the bottle look cheap, but also very hard to uncork. In the future I will not buy this wine as I can find wine of equal quality at a lower price that is easier to open.
