ACCOLADES

• Best of Class - 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

"Over 52 judges representing winemaking, trade, media, and food industries. Over 5,500 wines were submitted to the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.”

• JamesSuckling.com (91 Points)

"Quite mellow and savory with a fairly sleek body, this is a very distinctive Napa red with lots of cherries and mulberries, a blood-orange freshness driving the long, rather dry finish. Where is the salami? Drink or hold."

• American Fine Wine Competition (91 Points, Double Gold Medal)

"Over 550 wines were evaluated and judged by a 28-member judging panel of wine industry educators, restaurateurs, retailers, journalists, and sommeliers from across the country."

• Wine Enthusiast (90 Points)

"Made from 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 13% Sangiovese and 1% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot, this is substantial red wine, thick in tannin and smoky oak. Plummy and lush, it finishes in deep, dark chocolate." Virginie Boone

• Wine Spectator (90 Points)

Very ripe, with raspberry puree, plum and boysenberry fruit racing through, carried by polished tannins and coated by a red licorice note on the toasted finish. For the hedonist crowd. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2026. 2,934 cases made." -JM

Vineyard Notes
From an outstanding mix of the Napa Valley's best vineyards including our own Butala Vineyard and Grigsby Vineyard as well.
Winemaker Notes
Our “Lady of the Castle” is a Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese, with excellent long-term aging potential. Beginning in the late 1960s, a few winemakers in Tuscany attempted to make more complex red wines by planting the classic Bordeaux red grape varieties. While they experimented with these wines as separate varietal blends excluding the regional variety, Sangiovese, they also tried omitting the small amount of the white variety “Malvasia bianca” traditionally added to Sangiovese to produce “Chianti Classico” in lieu of a blend with Bordeaux varietals (namely, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). The term "Super Tuscan" describes a red wine made in this new style. Aromatic and intense, these wines have a character all their own. Italian examples of the Bordeaux reds from this region are Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Tignanello, now some of the most revered wines in the world. Examples of Italian Bordeaux/Sangiovese blends are Guidalberto and Le Volte. La Castellana is similar in style to these wines.
Food Pairing Notes
This elegant "Super Tuscan" wine goes well with lamb, sausage, grilled steak, Venison or a great pasta dish such as Pappardelle with wild boar (Dario's favorite).

Other Notes
Larger format bottles allow for high quality wines to age slower and longer. This is due to a lower volume of surface area in a Magnum bottle. Producing a beautiful wine that lasts for years to come.

95. My favourite from this winery. A blend of CS, Sangiovese, and Merlot. 3 years in new French oak and 2 in bottle. Pronounced juicy red fruit and black fruit with some spice. Stacks up to a high quality Super Tuscan, I think.
