2018 RUTHERFORD, Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

2018 RUTHERFORD, Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

This elegant Limited-Edition 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is highlighted by flavors of black cherry, savory spices, minerals and hints of plump cocoa powder. It displays a classic earthy tone, a characteristic that is common among Cabernet Sauvignon made in the Rutherford region. Excellent now but can age well for over a decade.

The legend of Rutherford dust starts with the regions superior soil makeup. The lighter dirt on the valley floor helps differentiate the soil from the other Napa Valley AVA’s. The deeper soils and microclimates create longer ‘hang time’ that seem to round out the tannins in a soft, dusty style.

Production Notes
The legend of Rutherford dust starts with the regions superior soil makeup. The lighter dirt on the valley floor helped differentiate it from the other Napa Valley AVA’s. Thus giving the region the term “Rutherford Dust”, now the name is used around the world by wine drinkers.
Winemaker Notes
Winter provided a record-breaking rainfall - a welcome end to the 4-years of drought. Bloom and fruit set in May occurred under ideal conditions. Summer was warm but the vines weathered the heat well and maturity moved along at a steady pace. A short but intense heat wave during the first part of September brought brix levels up dramatically and winemakers waited for the pH, acids, flavor and color development in the grapes to catch up to sugar accumulation. The 2018 wine quality shows a lot of bright acidity and fresh varietal aromas in the white wines, and deep color, sweet fruit flavors. Looking like it will be another classic year! - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
Pair with foods as bold as the wine, such as roast game meats, grass-fed steak, or grilled portabello mushrooms with reduced balsamic vinegar glaze.

2016 Rutherford Cabernet - Beautiful dark red color with fruit forward taste and nose. Smooth and lightly dry.

Great bold and savory cabernet. Nose filled with black fruits, oak, and chocolate. Tannins are hefty, acid is medium, and alcohol is medium-high. Very finely balanced, complex, and smooth to drink which makes it tough to stop at just one glass.
