ACCOLADES

• JamesSuckling.com (93 Points)

“A rich, layered red with ripe berry, plum and some cedar and oak. It’s medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins and a medium austere finish. Some toast and bitterness at the end. Give it time to open. Try after 2022.”

• Jeb Dunnuck (92 Points)

“A wine that’s sold only at the estate, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, all from a mountainous terroir in the northern part of the valley. Lots of smoked red and black fruits, saddle leather, dried herbs, tobacco, and cedar all emerge from this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied has a rounded, mouth-filling texture, and by this appellation’s standards, relatively moderate, soft tannins. This charmer is going to evolve for a solid decade or more.”

93 Points – James Suckling “A rich, layered red with ripe berry, plum and some cedar and oak. It’s medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins and a medium austere finish. Some toast and bitterness at the end. Give it time to open. Try after 2022.”
Vineyard Notes
A blend of fruit from some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon growing regions in Napa Valley, including our own Diamond Mountain District estate vineyard which surrounds the Castello. A touch of Petit Verdot and Malbec balance the rich dark fruit and tannins of the Cabernet, adding a vibrancy to its lush mouthfeel and lingering finish.
Production Notes
A dry, barrel-aged red wine from the Napa Valley. Shows excellent aging potential for the next decade or more.
Winemaker Notes
February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near– ideal conditions for our winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels.
Food Pairing Notes
Excellent to pair with steak with cocoa and coffee rub, chicken mole, or grilled meats.

Delightful, medium-to-full bodied with a dry long-lasting finish. Berries/fruit on the nose, cocoa on the palate
