Selected as a Cellar Selection by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. This limited release 2012 Magnum Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderful example of the unique terroir of Pritchard Hill, touted for its steep, well-drained sloped and rugged volcanic soils. Melanson Vineyard rests high on the eastern hills which overlooks Lake Hennessey in the Napa's eastern mountains. Inky black in color, black fruit aromas and earthy notes show the intensity and character of this wine. Intense fruit is framed by a very sturdy and age worthy tannin structure. This wine will age elegantly for the next 10-15 years, large format bottles have been known for their ability to elegantly age wine.
Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast Magazine (93 Points, Cellar Selection) - From a vineyard atop Pritchard Hill, this wine delivers big, bold flavors and structure. Integrated tannins form around flavors of cloves, baking spices and dried herbs. Blackberry and black cherry pop in between a flinty, earthy side. Drink through 2022.
Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media (93 Points) - The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard is another dark, voluptuous beauty from Castello di Amorosa. Here, too, the style is deceptively mid-weight, yet there is plenty of complexity in the glass. Sweet herbs, tobacco, licorice and lavender open up as the wine builds through the mid-palate and into the finish with gorgeous intensity.
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (92 Points) - The dense ruby/purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard comes from the eastern Vaca Mountains, overlooking St. Helena, part of the area known as Pritchard Hill (an incredible source for some great wines). This 2012 possesses beautiful black raspberry and blueberry fruit intermixed with notions of spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, elegant but intense, it is hard to resist at present, but should evolve gracefully for a decade.
