2017 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Napa Valley

2017 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Napa Valley

A bold and balanced Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with enticing notes of black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate with hints of savory spice. Excellent now but can age well for over a decade.

ACCOLADES

• James Suckling (92 Points)

"This has very attractive blackcurrant and cedar aromas, in classic cabernet mode. The palate has a very attractive core of ripe blackberries with round and fleshy fruit presence and such approachable, ripe tannins. Drink now."

• Wine Enthusiast Magazine (92 Points) (Cellar Selection)

"This seriously structured and nicely concentrated wine is a keeper. Scented with blueberries and light oak spices, it shows rich, somewhat grippy tannins, full body and pure black-cherry and black-currant flavors that point to continued improvement with time. Best from 2028."

• San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (Gold Medal)

"There were over forty-eight judges, representing various North American wine regions, evaluating 5,816 wines from nearly 1,000 wineries for the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition."

Vineyard Notes
A blend of fruit from some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon growing regions in Napa Valley, including our own Diamond Mountain District estate vineyard which surrounds the Castello. A touch of Petit Verdot and Malbec balance the rich dark fruit and tannins of the Cabernet, adding a vibrancy to its lush mouthfeel and lingering finish.
Production Notes
A dry, barrel-aged red wine from the Napa Valley. Shows excellent aging potential for the next decade or more.
Winemaker Notes
Winter provided a record-breaking rainfall, a welcome end to the 4 years of drought. Bloom and fruit set in May occured under ideal conditions. Summer was warm but the vines weathered the heat well and maturity moved along at a steady pace. The 2017 wine quality shows a lot of sweet fruit flavors and firm tannin structure in the reds. Looking like it will be another classic year! - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
Excellent to pair with steak with cocoa and coffee rub, chicken mole, or grilled meats.

Very good drinking wine for steaks winter soups. A dark balanced not too fruity but fresh red wine needs a little bit of air To complete his flavor. No bad aftertaste all around a very good Cabernet.

Would pair very well with chocolate. It’s dry but it does taste like raspberries, leather.

Big and bold with lots of black fruit, leather, and oak. Long finish. Excellent with steak or rich foods.
