2013 MELANSON, Magnum

2013 MELANSON, Magnum

A dark and voluptuous single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the rugged hillsides of Pritchard Hill on the eastern ridges of the Napa Valley. Lush notes of blue and black fruits are balanced by supple leather and earth undertones and a hint of minerality, with elegant tannins and a lingering finish.

ACCOLADES

• Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media (95 Points)

"A dark, voluptuous wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard impresses for its texture, depth and overall balance. Dark red stone fruits, spices, new leather and menthol meld together in a seamless wine. There is plenty of supporting structure, but the tannins are nearly buried, as the fruit is so radiant and expressive. This is a gorgeous wine from Castello di Amorosa."

• Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (94 Points)  -

"The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard is filled with blueberry and raspberry characteristics as well as exceptional purity, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, good acidity and freshness, a vigorous exuberance and an ethereal style. This fascinating 2013 should drink well for 15+ years."

Wine Profile
Ratings
• Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (90 Points) - The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard, from a site on Pritchard Hill, shows loads of black raspberry and blueberry fruit, a deep ruby/purple color, a touch of minerality, medium to full body, but is fruit-dominated, lush, seductive and round. It should drink well for at least 15 or so years. • Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (92-94 Points) - The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard is filled with blueberry and raspberry characteristics as well as exceptional purity, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, good acidity and freshness, a vigorous exuberance and an ethereal style. Vineyard Notes
The Melanson estate is one of a handful of exceptional vineyards that share an enchanted slope on the rugged eastern ridges of the Napa Valley called Pritchard Hill. This 10.5 acre vineyard sits on a boulder-strewn hillside with remarkable views of Lake Hennessey and the valley floor below. The vineyard's rich sobrante loam soils are loaded with volcanic rock, and distinct southern and western exposures at 1200 feet elevation places the vines above the fog line, allowing them to receive maximum sun exposure throughout the day and provides optimum conditions for even ripening.
Winemaker Notes
2013 was a stunning vintage that produced absolutely remarkable wines – possibly even better than the magnificent 2012 ‘nearly perfect’ wines. Both growing seasons were dry and early ripening, which brought the fruit to full maturity while avoiding fall rains. The temperatures were on the cool side which retained excellent acidity and wonderful aging potential. The 2013 reds are complex and full-bodied, classic Napa Valley style. - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
Pair with foods as bold as the wine, such as roast game meats, grass-fed steak, or grilled Portobello mushrooms with reduced balsamic vinegar glaze.
