92 Points - International Wine Report

"Sourced from Pinot Noir vines, the Cresta d’ Oro Vineyard is located in the Green Valley of Sonoma County. On the nose this takes on delicate red cherry, guava puree and orange rind aromas that build in the glass. The palate shows really good freshness with intense red fruit and blood orange flavors, with wild mushroom undertones. The texture to this wine is truly outstanding — as is the long, lingering finish. With good minerality, this seriously good Rose is best enjoyed in the short-term. Drink 2019-2024."

Vineyard Notes
Formerly named Three Arrows Ranch Vineyard, this Castello-owned vineyard is located in the sub-AVA of Green Valley, on the southwestern edge of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. Situated only 15 miles from the coast, calm, foggy mornings give way to warm afternoons and cool, breezy nights, providing a perfect climate for growing Pinot Noir. Cresta d'Oro Vineyard is planted with 12 acres of clones 115, 777, and Pommard 4, which are nourished by the Goldridge sandy loam soils of this historic district.
Winemaker Notes
The cool winter and spring in 2018 delayed bud break by 2 weeks compared to 2017. Likewise, the Growing Degree Days (GDD), a measurement of heat during the grape growing season was down on average by 14% below 2017. This cool season allowed the vines to slowly accumulate sugar and tannins in the grapes while maintaining some exceptional acid profiles and low pH at harvest. Overall the vintage was cooler than normal and grape yields slightly above average. Reports on quality are very positive, with crisp, bright and aromatic whites and red wines at lower tannin levels yielding subtle, velvety wines but with great elegance and concentration of color and flavors. —Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
