Vineyard Notes

Il Barone is a blend of the Castello's top high-end Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards from the best growing regions of Napa Valley. The majority of the fruit comes from the Rutherford AVA, a region famed for producing beautifully structured and complex Cabernet Sauvignon.

Production Notes

2013 was a stunning vintage that produced absolutely remarkable wines – possibly even better than the magnificent 2012 ‘nearly perfect’ wines. Both growing seasons were dry and early ripening, which brought the fruit to full maturity while avoiding fall rains. The temperatures were on the cool side which retained excellent acidity and wonderful aging potential. Il Barone is a very flavorful, elegant and structured red wine in the style of high-quality, very limited-production, fine Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Napa Valley. Excellent long-term ageing potential.

Drank with friends. It was great but should be much better with ageing. Buy a case and rack it and I don't think you will be disappointed.

A dear friend shared a bottle of 2013 II Barone with us from his wine cellar for dinner...it was outstanding.

When you want a really nice full body cab that is an overall from start to finish excellent, this is the one. I highly recommend this wine for those special times with family or friends!!

My wife and I tried this during a tasting in 2018 and had to buy a bottle. We just had it tonight as a Christmas treat, and what a treat it was! This wine is nothing short of ethereal and complex. Absolutely fantastic!
