Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The volcanic soils of this hillside vineyard give this Cabernet Sauvignon a firm structure, with intense notes of blackcurrant, cassis and green olive. Bold yet with a supple texture and balanced tannins, this wine shows layers of ripe cherry, juicy berry flavors and cedar.
Ratings
One of the very few wines from this producer that have not hit the mark squarely, this one has all the ripeness and richness that one has come to expect of the brand, but, here, the fruit turns out to be a bit too dry/ripe with a roasted quality that does not fit with the variety. Soft and ripe at entry but tasting of dried grapes with a note of dark chocolate, and hot, tannic and slightly acidy as it ends, it fails to measure up and is better left alone in favor of better from the Castello. - Connoisseurs Guide to California Wine
Vineyard Notes
Diamond Mountain District is one of the northern-most growing regions in Napa Valley, and is home to Castello di Amorosa. The volcanic soils and sloped landscape characteristic of the mountain limit grapevine growth leading to an especially concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon.
Winemaker Notes
The 2015 vintage was of high quality, but very low yields in many varieties. The harvest will also be remembered as one of the earliest ever. The relatively dry and warm winter resulted in small clusters of grapes with highly concentrated flavors yielding wines of deep, rich flavors and excellent quality with deep color and lovely fruit aromas. - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
Excellent to pair with steak with cocoa and coffee rub, chicken mole, hearty mushroom dishes or grilled meats.
