2017 PINOT NOIR, Morning Dew Ranch

2017 PINOT NOIR, Morning Dew Ranch

A single vineyard Pinot Noir from our Morning Dew Ranch estate vineyard in Anderson Valley, with enticing aromas of brambleberries, toasted sage, and clove leading to plush yet silky layers of red fruits, polished tannins, and a refined finish.

This expressive Pinot Noir received 94 Points and Editor's Choice by Wine Enthusiast's, Jim Gordon. He stated, "Bold and spicy, this firmly-built wine is the first Morning Dew Ranch Vineyard-designate from the new owners of this estate. It starts with exotic and enticing aromas of fresh mint, batsil and clove, then delivers pure, focused black fruits and a generous dose of new oak spice on the palate. Healthy, lip-smacking tannins and firm acidity give it great structure, yet there's no hurry to enjoy this wine. Best after 2020."

Vineyard Notes
This 12 acre Castello Estate vineyard, located just west of the town of Philo in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County, is in a very cool microclimate and divided into 9 blocks of Pinot Noir planted with DRC, 115, 777, Rochioli, 23, and 828 clones. It is sustainably farmed by our vineyard team, led by longtime Castello Vineyard Manager David Bejar.
Production Notes
This Castello Estate wine is the newest addition to our Pinot Noir program, and is featured in our exclusive single vineyard Pinot Noir Allocation.
Winemaker Notes
Winter provided a record-breaking rainfall, a welcome end to the 4 years of drought. Bloom and fruit set in May occured under ideal conditions. Summer was warm but the vines weathered the heat well and maturity moved along at a steady pace. The 2017 wine quality shows a lot of sweet fruit flavors and firm tannin structure in the reds. Looking like it will be another classic year! - Brooks Painter, Director of Winemaking
Food Pairing Notes
Pair this elegant yet versatile wine with roast duck, charred cod with mushrooms, or sottocenere Italian truffle cheese.
