Bright aromas of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and melon mingle with hints of rose petal, with a refreshing acidity and hints of minerality from aging in a concrete egg.
Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Wine of The Week - "Castello di Amorosa, 2019 Rosato Cresta D’oro Vineyard, 13.7%, $39. ★★★½: A refreshing rosé with great minerality. Notes of rose petal and strawberry. Balanced. Smart."
Formerly named Three Arrows Ranch Vineyard, this Castello-owned vineyard is located in the sub-AVA of Green Valley, on the southwestern edge of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. Situated only 15 miles from the coast, calm, foggy mornings give way to warm afternoons and cool, breezy nights, providing a perfect climate for growing Pinot Noir. Cresta d'Oro Vineyard is planted with 12 acres of clones 115, 777, and Pommard 4, which are nourished by the Goldridge sandy loam soils of this historic district.
The cool winter and spring in 2018 delayed bud break by 2 weeks compared to 2017. Likewise, the Growing Degree Days (GDD), a measurement of heat during the grape growing season was down on average by 14% below 2017. This cool season allowed the vines to slowly accumulate sugar and tannins in the grapes while maintaining some exceptional acid profiles and low pH at harvest. Overall the vintage was cooler than normal and grape yields slightly above average. Reports on quality are very positive, with crisp, bright and
aromatic whites and red wines at lower tannin levels yielding subtle, velvety wines but with great elegance and concentration of color and flavors.
