Wine has long been known as a drinkable artform. Here at the Castello we consider our winemaking an art. In addition to our wine, we have a bevy of Tuscan-inspired frescoes throughout the Castle. We like to think we are crafting the same type of art that adorns the Castle walls in every bottle at Castello di Amorosa.
Wine blends often deliver increased complexity and can be more interesting than single varietal wines. Blending gives the advantage and potential of adding complexity to the resulting wine and provides a tapestry of multiple flavors and aromatics. It also offers an opportunity to achieve balance and gives our winemakers the freedom to make the very best wine possible. Every year the blends used to make our Castello wines is unique.
♦ One bottle of 2016 La Castellana, Super Tuscan Blend, Napa Valley, Our “Lady of the Castle” is a Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese, with excellent long-term aging potential. Dark stone fruit, spices, red cherries, and floral notes are supported by silky, polished tannins. La Castellana is a harmonious blend that strikes a balance between power and elegance. Patience will be rewarded as La Castellana slowly reveals her secrets over the years. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 14% Sangiovese, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec.
♦ One bottle of 2016 Il Brigante, Red Blend, Napa Valley, This Cabernet-based Napa Valley blend displays aromas of cassis & spice. Rich flavors of currant and black cherry are layered with expressive notes of dark chocolate. The palate displays vibrant fruit with undertones of earthy aromas. Moderate, well integrated tannins provide a structured backbone that will help the wine continue to improve for several years to come. 39 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Petite Verdot, 5% Malbec, 4% Sangiovese, 4% Pinot Noir.
♦ One bottle of 2018 Quattro, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, after harvesting Cabernet Sauvignon from 4 of the Castello's top vineyards, a small quantity from each was left over due to the 4 intended fermentation vessels coming full. Knowing that the fruit was all of great quality, he decided to ferment the leftovers together in a single small tank. Upon tasting the wine just as the fermentation was finishing up, we knew something special had occurred, and we proclaimed that the "Quattro" warranted a unique bottling. No blending has been done with this wine since that fateful day the grapes were plucked from the 4 distinct vineyard sites from across the Napa Valley.
♦ One bottle of 2018 Il Passito, Napa Valley, a regal dessert wine made from overripe grapes which develop Botrytis cinerea, or “Noble Rot”, shriveling the skins and enhancing sugar, acid, and flavor intensity. This succulent and deliciously spicy white wine is made in the style of some of the world’s greatest dessert wines, such as Sauternes and the “dried grape” white wines of Sicily such as “Passito di Pantelleria. 63% Semillon, 37% Sauvignon Blanc.
♦ One bottle of 2022 La Fantasia, Frizzante-Style Rosé, our secret Proprietary Blend is an Italian style frizzante (soft sparkling) wine which is naturally sweet and lower in alcohol, with bright aromas of summer strawberry, pomegranate, and wild berries leading to juicy flavors of black raspberry and plum, with a lively mouthfeel and refreshing finish.
♦ One bottle of 2021 Simpatica, Riesling, this Simpatica wine shows alluring aromas of apricot, wildflower honey, and soft floral notes leading to lush flavors of white peach and apricot. Shop this delicately sweet blend of Riesling and Muscat Canelli. 72% Riesling, 28% Moscato.
